During the first quarter of 2024 we celebrated beginnings. We welcomed a new team member, settled into a fresh office space, and had many standout moments along the way. Before we dive head first into the next season, we took some time to look back and reflect on what we’ve been up to at kin. It’s safe to say we started the year off with a bang!
Below find a few highlights, client wins, and everything in between:
January
– We welcomed a new team member – Lisa! Lisa is kin’s account coordinator and we’re so happy to have her. Fun fact: she’s a cat person and a serious Swiftie.
– We kicked off 2024 by participating in our team’s annual vision-boarding workshop to brainstorm and visualize our mindset for the upcoming year. See which Word of the Year each team member selected here.
– Marin and Riley reconnected at the Winnipeg Renovation Show, where TV host, Sherry Holmes of Holmes: Next Generation, hit the stage. The kin team led the PR through media relations, social media management, and influencer engagements to amplify the Show. We also invited a targeted group of Winnipeg-based influencers and media to attend an opening night event at the Show. The event featured DIY demonstrations from women in the trades, a grazing charcuterie table, and cocktails to enjoy. Our efforts resulted in a total potential reach of 35M, 716 total combined social media and media mentions and a public relations value (PRV) of $954k.

– We started planning for an exciting new project with Tourism Nanaimo. Check out their refreshed brand which is live on their Instagram page now!
– We presented Strategic Plans for one of our longstanding clients, FDF Brandz, including Famoso Pizzeria, Ricky’s Family Restaurant, Humpty’s Big Plate Diner, and ABC Country Cranbrook. These plans outlined objectives and goals for the upcoming year, paired with exciting and engaging campaigns for each month.
– We wrapped up some final work with Cavill & Wicks this month. Our holiday campaign resulted in coverage from 34 different Canadian media outlets ahead of the holidays including Hello! Canada, National Post, Chatelaine, Elle Canada, VITA and Curiocity and featured organic sharing from notable Canadian lifestyle influencers including @fraicheliving (264k), @ambervscott (449k) and @thishouse5000 (643k).
– We began strategizing and brainstorming with new client Sidekick Dating. Stay tuned for this new Vancouver dating app launching this summer!
February
– We found comfort and inspiration in our new office space at WerkLab! While kin is a hybrid workplace, we love having a home base to work from, encouraging team members in the Lower Mainland to work in-office when they can to allow for collaboration and connection.
– We secured an interview with client, Founder and Executive Director of Odihi, Efe Fruci on CTV Morning Live where she shared how the non-profit organization is uplifting BIPOC women through workshops, mentorship, and by providing a community where they can reach their career goals.
– The BC Home + Garden Show also took place this month, where Scott McGillivray from HGTV Canada headlined the Show alongside celebrity organizer Megan Golightly of Go Simplified, renowned Vancouver chefs, home experts, and gardening specialists. Throughout the project, we sent out press releases, numerous targeted pitches and event listings, generating a total potential reach of 121M, 1,005 combined social media and media mentions and a public relations value (PRV) of over $3M.
– We started work with new client Botanica Tulip Festival, strategizing with plans for media relations, social media management, an experiential event and influencer engagements.
– To further her industry education and to network, social butterfly Riley attended two Monday Girl events including a pilates class at House Concepts and a workshop around creative leadership.
– We saw some excellent social media shares as a result of influencer invites to Superflux {Cabana} including @paigelancelot (11k), @midlifecarson (6k) and @bethanygillat (9k).
March
– FDF Brandz opened a new restaurant in Mill Creek, Alberta, a conjoined Famoso Pizzeria and Ricky’s Family Restaurant location. We helped introduce the new location to the community by inviting local influencers into the restaurant, published targeted social posts and ran digital ads to help spread the word.
– We celebrated International Women’s Day by recognizing the achievements of female leaders around us and the collective bond that we have on our women-led team.
– We kicked off with a new client, Friday Harbour, a Vancouver-based brand focused on sustainable luxury that captures the essence of West Coast living. Our team has been supporting through media relations and influencer engagements to build brand awareness this spring. Check out their ultra-soft Cloud Towel here.
– Our team caught the travel bug this month! Marin went on a ski trip in the French Alps, Riley spent time in Cabo, Lisa visited Mexico City, Pam spent time in Arizona, and Claire travelled to Bucerias.
– And finally, we helped spread the word about Ricky’s Family Restaurant’s Spring Feature menu by inviting influencers in to enjoy! We saw engaging and educational shares from @emkooyman (57k) and @heydylopez_ (74k).
With a strong start to the year we look forward to continuing the fun through the second half of 2024. Here’s to a great year filled with success, achievements, and meaningful moments. We have a good feeling about what’s to come!
